boxesMoving sucks.  I can’t put it more eloquently than that.  We have nearly five weeks until we take possession and that means 5 weeks of packing, living in chaos, anxious anticipation and more packing.

Last year I attended the professional organizers of Canada conference and sat in many sessions put on by super talented organizers.  One such session involved organizing and simplifying your move.  I remember thinking, poor suckers who are in the position of preparing to move.  I thought for once we were settled and the terrifying process of moving and relocating were a distant memory.  After four moves in five years I was not ready to hire, yet again, our regular mover nor start asking for banana boxes from our local corner store.  Nope, I was staying put….boy am I eating crow now.

I quickly gave a call to my wonderful organizer co-worker and friend Elaine who quickly provided me with a copy of this awesome book GO the essential guide to organizing and moving written by Karen Shinn and Gail Shields.  It is a complete and comprehensive book outlining all the necessary steps and checklists to make your move as easy and painless as possible.  Although it would be easier to close my eyes, wiggle my nose and transport myself and all of our belonging to the new house but that’s unlikely to happen.  This book will be a huge help in an effort to maintain sanity through all of this.

For all those in the same position as I, why not check out this book.

ubg3Welcome to my little neck of the woods, hope you stay a while.  Most of all I would love to hear from you.

A little about myself and that of my family.  I live with my parents on a 50 acre horse farm with my wonderful hubby and two amazing little boys, Landon 4 and Dane 20 months.  Since becoming a mom I vowed to simplify life and place more emphasis on family than that of stuff.    I am constantly trying to bring all aspects of our life back to basics, from cooking from scratch, organizing, responsible green living but most of all family.

Here are a few snapshots from a day in the life of me.

I love to make homemade gifts and goodies

    dispensers

    applesauce muffins

    caramel6

I absolutely love to garden, bottle and cook from scratch

    tomato plant

    tomatoes APPLE BUTTER

Let’s not forget how I love to organize

I recently came across this post on using Clear jars for storage.  I love my glass containers and use various sized one’s for storing my dry goods in the kitchen.

fishingluresWhy spend a whack of money on plastic expensive storage containers when you can get inexpensive (check your thrift stores) and safe (no BPA) glass jars?

I use several large jars for my regular and instant oatmeal

    jars1

I love these glass medicine bottles.  They are the perfect size for storing a full bottle of extract.

    Ijars2

I picked up several of these wide mouth mason jars for a quarter at a yard sale.  The opening is larger than the standard jars and makes it easy to scoop coffee and other hot beverage mixes out.

    jars3

Before tossing this oil and vinegar jar in the trash I knew it would be perfect for storing my dishwashing soap.  So much more attractive than a plastic bottle on the edge of the sink.  I also save money when I buy the soap in bulk where I simply have to fill it up as need be.

So before tossing those glass jars in the trash rethink their use in the kitchen

    *WARNING* basket eye candy ahead…..

    IMG_2487_1

I love how Michelle spiffied up her baskets with scrapbook tags and rub-ons.  Makes me want to actually buy more than one lip gloss to create a basket of it’s very own.  My one and only chapstick is getting a little lonely

Now this is taking organizing to a new level by printing off the name of the basket’s owner on the front….ooohs and ahhhhs were all I could muster up when I came across this one by Every good and perfect gift.

This post full of fancy baskets gave me chills, seriously that is some serious, colour co-ordinating organizing going on in that house.

Check Buzzings of a queen bee’s site  for a full montage of basket goodies.  Her motto must be “one can never have too many baskets” and she probably does not mean laundry baskets, unlike my motto lately

Who doesn’t love a well stocked dollarstore for some frugal organizing?  I know this gal does.
